For starters, just to let my CheckRayz'rs know, I've not forgotten ya, I promise. In fact, tomorrow right here on the Poker Pub Poker Blog, we will have a special edition of the Friday Mailbag - back by popular demand.

The biggest question in the minds of most of the CheckRayz'rs is... "Mike, where the hell have you been?" That question, I won't make you wait to tune into... I'll answer it right now, after the break...

Right now, the Beer Guy has many an iron in the fire. In fact, it's safe to assume there are too many irons in the fire. In no particular order, here are some of the many things I have going on:

1. Maintaining CheckRayz, which includes setting up tourneys, finding money, answering email and marketing... among other things. Yes, last three tourneys will be put into the leaderboard DB tonight.

2. Writing for the Poker Pub, which includes uncovering a story or figuring out wtf to write about.

3. ~~Playing Online~~... see below.

4. Supporting the "Aussie or Bust" mindset, where I'll accept myself being no where other than Melbourne, Australia come mid-January.

5. Working on one of the six books I've started but not come close to being finished (and yes, I am talking about writing a book, not reading --- we all know I ~~don't~~ can't bring myself to read any book not poker or philosophy related - sad but true.

6. Reviving my soccer "career."

7. Running my weekly charity tournaments locally.

8. Raising the twins.

9. Maintaining some sort of personal life.

10. The Blogger Poker Tour.

10. Everything else not mentioned (eat, sleep, etc).

So yes, I'm quite busy... or is it unorganized? "Yes" is the correct answer, busy being unorganized. So in any event, something has to give here. And, I think my decision is to make only cameo appearances on the virtual felt until after the Super Bowl. Safely assume I will be playing event seven and the grand final of the BPT. Also safely assume I'll appear in one or two CheckRayz events between now and the end of the year. Otherwise, unless it's moving me towards Aussie in January, I probably will not be playing in it - that includes the cash games. I will be writing here regularly and focusing on some modifications to the CheckRayz site, but otherwise, I'm done til after the SuperBowl, because I need the time in my schedule to persue other interests at the moment.

More tomorrow on the Friday mailbag. Moving on...

BPT - Bounty on the BeerGuy...

So, I am guessing by now that you've all heard the news. And by news, a bounty has been placed upon my head for the Poker Pub Last Call Omaha Hi/Lo event for the Blogger Poker Tour, which will be held on December 16 at 3pm EST on the virtual felt of Poker.com.

That's right folks, I'm putting it all on the line. The final event of Blogger Poker Tour Season 2, expected to be by far, the richest event to date in terms of leaderboard points, and host bonus... And I'm giving my host bonus away. Keep reading to find out how...

For starters, obviously... in order to collect this launch bonus, you have to first be one of the hi/low'ers to oust me from the tournament. Be careful though, as omaha hi/lo is a game of draws and things do not always end up how they start.

Launching me, though, is the hardest task, but it's not the only task. I've asked for two very specific stipulations to be put in place in order for the launch bonus to be collected. They are as follows:

1. BPT Banner is working and prominently displayed on the ousting blogger's blog. - what I mean by this... is give the banner some exposure... how about when I come to your page, I don't have to scroll down to see it. Or at the very least, if I have to scroll, I can still be reading your most recent blog post and "come across" it. And as for "working"... I mean, if I click it, it will take me to the BPT page.

2. Blogger must have posted "about the blogger poker tour" within the past seven days and again the day of the tournament. - What do I mean by this? I mean, post on your blog... talk about, promote the tour. Give us some omaha strategy. Talk about your experiences, make predictions, talk smack! Blog about the Blogger Poker Tour! Do this the week going into the event AND the day of.

If you've not done so, then I guess you'll not get part of the launch prize.

Additional suggestion... speaking of promotion and exposure... Invite your friends! Not only does that help the tour grow, but it also increases launch bonus because it's a bigger field. Additionally, it helps make your finish in the event more meaningful, because there's more points for you for finishing or final tabling...

And most importantly, it helps to bring more quality people such as yourself to the event. So, spread the word, embrace the tour and launch the Beer Guy at Last Call!

BPT, "What 'they' say 2"

For starters my thoughts: The Blogger Poker Tour event six was great. I think the biggest story of the tournament is that JayNYC made yet another top twenty five finish. For the record, he did not start until event three, placed 24th in that event. Followed it up with an 18th place finish, then a third... and now this week 7th. If he's not the hottest player on the tour right now, and odds on favorite to be playing in Aussie, I'm not really sure who is.

Second, it's disappointing that one or two people attempt to hijack the tour and whine about things, as stated in my post yesterday on the Blogger POKER Tour. Especially from someone who puts themselves out there not just as a blogger, but also as a journalist... to link a forum thread to the thought that "other bloggers are not happy either" (about event seven being pot limit omaha hi/low), when in reality, there was one negative comment on that thread --- (but even that comment wasn't all that negative). Furthermore, that thread was in support of event six and just got a bit off track! My advice, go back to the school of journalism, learn to seperate fact from opinion, learn how to express the difference between fact and opinion, and finally... if you don't like it, simply don't play. Quit whining, nuff said...

Well, not even two minutes later, my daughter calls and totally hijacks the quote of the day on something not poker related... in case you didn't know, I have twins that are six yrs old. This morning, my parents took them bowling. My daughter calls me to tell me all about it. She's quite a talker, so she is chattering away and then she asks:

"Daddy, what are you doing?"

I tell her that I'm talking to her...

Then she asks, "Well, Daddy... are you sitting down or standing up?"

Why is that the quote of the day, you ask? At six years old, that question is cute... Any older, and she has some news to drop on ya, and it ain't good... You're pretty much needing to be sitting down for it.

It's the Blogger POKER Tour...

Shane did an entry earlier about this being the BLOGGER Poker Tour, when he was citing that bloggers who have a blog and actually blog are what makes up this tour. I think he did a great job of bringing that home. Now here I am, preparing to host event number seven. I'd however, like to touch on another part of that same title. It's the Blogger POKER Tour.

I know we all love hold'em, for the most part... On December 12, poker.com is rolling out some of their new games - stud, omaha hi/low, razz, draw... you know, other POKER games.

Originally, this game of pot limit omaha hi/low was supposed to be irongirls' event. Poker.com, however, was not ready to roll the new games out when she was hosting. Knowing that, and knowing that the event I was to host would coincide with the roll out of the new games, it makes complete sense to host such an event.

Without naming names, or building links... This is the Blogger POKER Tour... not the Blogger Hold'em Tour. And either you're ok with that... or you're not. I think it's a shame that one or two people would whine and complain, citing conspiracy theory, or how unfair it is - specifically the one who was whining about the host on the host table today...

This is a fun tour, a positive tour. And while everyone is in fact entitled to an opinion... if you do not like the event, don't register... If you do not like hosts getting a host bonus, don't play... it's that simple...

We have two weeks... I'm not an omaha player, and surely not an omaha hi/low player either. I'll be looking for, and providing omaha hi/low tips that I come across on the net. Also, I believe I have a CheckRayz Omaha game on the calendar for anyone who wishes to give it a test run.

This is a positive tour, let's keep it that way.

Where's my flop? - BPT Event 6 Live Coverage

For the Blogger Poker Tour, today is game day... Usually, here at the Poker Pub Poker Blog, we start our live coverage of the Blogger Poker Tour about an hour prior to the 3pm start. We decided today to start tailgating - pregame festivities if you will. And speaking of the game, as of 8am, there's 105 chip slinging bloggers ready to do battle on the virtual felt of poker.com's BPT Tables. Today's event - hosted by ZowieZ over at "It's flopilicious," is a traditional full table NL Texas Hold'em poker tournament. I expect this tournament to break the record, set by skinski last week.

We'll be back throughout the day with coverage and BPT talk.

8.50... it should be noted, blogger is being a pain in the ass... most of the features (link button, bold type, spell check - not that i use it) are not present. Additionally, there's a scheduled outage at 3pm PST. I'll do my best, but no beerguy guarantee today.

10.00... I know I sound like a house dog, being made to sleep outside, but it's really irritating me to be without my link and bold buttons... Though, we're at 112 entries now, which is the largest BPT event on record (until next week, of course).

11.30... up to 120 registered. I'm really beginning to wonder if I bought enough beer...

11.45... John reports in blogger is AFU for him too. First official Beerguy - Poker Pub Drunken prediction has John at the final table. If we take a quick poker pub flashback, we see that my predictions do generally come true here.

12.15... Poker Pub Poker Blog prediction number two... Alex will recover nicely and make it to the final two tables. I only say recover nicely because his football club was beat badly by my football club, though I did not expect a different result.

12.40... 123 entered now... Further predictions include a first time player finishing top three, and a newb being first to be eliminated. Over/under on sitouts not joining before being blinded out is 18. Headwaiter goes broke having his opposition preflopped, but villian outflops him...

1.00... more predictions... Joey recaptures a top 20 spot on the leaderboard... Over-under for 5th st. players in the top 20 for this tourney is 6.

1.30... a host wins, Jay gets caught, i get sick of the link button not working and become lazy in my pregame linking...

2.10... I come up with this brilliant plan to hit the casino tomorrow, because it's the weekend of the 1st of the month, which means anyone who gets pension/government/welfare checks will be up there - my guess is that the tables will be extra juicy...

2.15... 127 bloggers in... Some damn uhaul just pulled up and parked in front... I'm predicting it messes my internet connection up worse than it normally is...

Live, realtime coverage of Blogger Poker Tour Event 6 begins... next

A half hour to go and 130 of the biggest, baddest BPT Poker Bloggers are in. And speaking of "in," who today shall join ReplicantPoker, Alex, kufolem, freeroll26, and iyatoni as season two event winners in this event six of the blogger poker tour's second season? We'll find out shortly.

It should be noted, this is the largest BPT event to date and shall be the richest in terms of Blogger Poker Tour leaderboard points. A strong finish by any of the top 20 with one event left will all but guarantee a spot in the grand final, where we'll be sending a blogger to represent the Blogger Poker Tour and Poker.com in the Aussie Millions.

My good friend Gerg (not a misspelling, btw) and I decided to make a run "up the street" to the casino yesterday. This decision was pretty sparatic in nature. So off we go... We arrive to see only 1 hold'em table running in the poker room, which was the standard 1/2 NL. The table seemingly consisted of a couple, sitting side by side and seven locals... With 1 empty seat, right next to the dealer, I reluctantly sit down and buy in, hoping that a second table opens up soon.

I'm not a fan of playing a hand for the entire first rotation. I want cards, but am typically folding most everything, less AA through tens or a decent hand on exactly the button and/or cutoff. So, as fate would have it, I'm shown KQ offsuit in the cutoff. I limp and we're eight handed. Flop comes J-10-7, with the J and 10 being clubbed. BB bets out and there are two raises before it gets around to me. I muck my hand only to catch the straight on the turn. I had told Gerg on the way up that anytime I've ever played a hand off of the BB during the first rotation, I've been stacked... with no exceptions. While disappointing, I think to myself that my money is not going to necessarily come via the cards.

About ten hands into play the second table does in fact open, which I request a table move. I sit down to a seemingly juicy table. Instead of being next to the dealer, I'm just off-center and facing him. To my right sits a local with a very heavy foreign accent, who is surely a regular. To his right, a vietnam vet, and to his right a guy who I am certain is an off-duty police officer (just by looking at him, though I did not ask). To my left was a series of younger guys. I had a good idea that my money was going to come from the guy to my immediate left and from the vet, by just looking at the table, however, I'd adjust this thinking within the ten hand rotation. More on this in just a second.

As fate would have it, however, hand number two brings me rockets. I raise 5x, and get three callers. Pot of $27 the flop comes queen - six - three. The cop bets ten. He's not got much behind the bet, and the guy to my left is already mucking his cards, so I move all-in. The cop calls, turning over queen jack... Speaking of jacks, we turn the corner and a jack comes. River is no help and my stacked streak continues... Rebuy please!

While this was somewhat discouraging, I took some satisfaction in knowing that it was not a full stack for either of us, I was in with the best hand, and the day was still quite young.

Back to my statement about where my money was coming from... I was not sitting down at that table with the warrior mentality. I didn't think it is me vs them. I wanted to play against two to three players on the table - a very specific two to three players, actually. I wanted to know which players were playing shit to raises. I wanted to know which players were chasing more with a gut shot or low pair, ace kicker than they were with second pair. These were my targets. I suspected at least one of the young ones and the vet were just those people. My initial plan is to confirm as to whether or not I am accurate (in whole or in part) and then to figure out how to maximize profit and extract the most from these identified and carefully selected players.

After cold cards and a small flush over flush loss to the vet, I started on a roll. Said young guys to my left were stacked by the vet and by the local with the accent. Two guys my age sat down to my left. They rode in together and were friends. One was cool and talkative, the other was talkative, all be it shit talking though. During his first preflop raise of 3.5 times the BB, and being seven handed on the flop, he proceeded to tell everyone how bad of players they were. When he won the hand by catching his second pair on the river, he cut what I can only describe as a Ric Flair and/or Howard Dean promo, as everyone - including the dealer, is rolling their eyes.

The next hand, he raises up again, this time he's three handed. One guy, to the dealers right ends up all-in. The gentleman to the dealer's left (who seemingly knows what he's doing) calls cleanly, and shit talker also cleanly calls. Flop comes king-x-x. Shittalker continues the bet, talking about the water temp; guy calls. Turn is a blank, and the shit talker fires off the second barrel. Guy calls. River is again a blank and the shit talker checks. The dealer turns quickly and seemingly suggests the guy bet out as she asks for action. He bets out and shit talker folds, disgusted. All-in guy leaves, as the board missed him, and the pot is pushed to the other guy. I was loving this. I slid the dealer an extra tip just for that move.

My first double up comes from the vietnam vet. We end up all-in by the turn and my nines hold. As a sidenote, nines were the nuts all day long. My table targets end up being the Vet, as stated, the shit talker, and anyone to his left, pretty much. This was the "anti-locals" table. Shit talker and the local ended up throwing down in a cross fire. The local ended up stacked four times, though only once by shit talker.

Bit later, I find Paris and Nicki sitting on my lap. Raise to ten, four deep, and one of their friends joins us on the flop. I stack one of the short stacks as a result.

Cowboys vs the local hold a bit later. Fast forwarding here to three hands in particular. Gerg comes over and gives me the "last rotation" look. I end up limping with jack two of hearts UTG+2. Now as a disclaimer... I'm not encouraging play of this hand AT ALL. I had a few factors going for me here. One, I knew the table. They were ALL beginning to believe I was catching cards at will. Thus, I could pretty much limp and less being against AA through 10-10, and/or AK-AJ, I was going to get in for a limp. Additionally, because I had a stack and we were going shortly, I needed to lower my standards a bit and try to milk out some added EV. Eight handed, flop comes King of hearts, Ace of hearts, queen of clubs. Checks all around to the button - an older guy with glasses who does not seem like the preflop raising type (even if I wasn't seemingly catching), bets ten. I call out of position, having nine hearts and three tens to rely on here. We're three handed, pot of roughly 50. Turn is a blank. He again bets ten. A third heart floats down the river comes and I stick out a $25 bet, in which he folds up shop to.

I turn to Gerg and give him the "more than 1 rotation" look. He nods to me, understanding I'm probably going to earn my keep in the next 20 minutes. UTG, I once again see my girls, Paris and Nicki... I'm really hoping they're going to bring friends too. I limp and two others call behind me. The SB bumps the bet to 15, which is about a 2x pot raise. I think and make it $45. He's isolated and out of position with about 80 remaining after the call. Flop comes ace-nine-three. He checks, hands shaking and looking away from me. I check behind. Turn comes a six, totally rainbowed board now. He checks, again hand shaking and looking away. I bet twenty here, figuring I'm either betting twenty on the turn or having to call 80 on the river, because I've shown weakness. Additionally, his posture "could" mean that he's got jacks or kings and is pissed off about the ace. If he calls this or comes over top, he has either an ace or a set of something from the flop. He's a Browns fan, not a bluffer. He calls cleanly. River is a "not queen," and he moves all-in. I fold Paris and Nicki face up. He turns over his top card, which is a nine, confirming my read... Nice laydown Mike!

The final noteworthy hand pits me, in the cutoff with pocket sixes against an early position 5x raiser who has about $80 left in his stack after said raise. Flop comes Queen diamonds, ten diamonds, and four of hearts. He stares hard at the board, then looks at his cards and fires off a twenty dollar bet. I think for a short while and call cleanly. Player on the button and small blind fold. Turn is a third diamond. He moves all-in for roughly $60. My gut tells me he has AK, and they're suited, but not diamonds. I slave over the decision for a short while and tell him that I think he's got AK of hearts, and either I am 100% dead on or I am drawing dead. I believe I am correct, so I call. Frustrated, he flips over AK of hearts and my sixes hold up. Great read, Mike!

Overall, I 3x+'d my money in five hours of work. As I stated, I kept in mind pretty much where my money was going to come from. It's much easier playing against a few than an entire mob.
