Note to self, pink is not a manly color. I had two big hands against Pink_Lady today at Bugsy's Club in the $3K Guaranteed. These hands occured back to back. The hand history really speaks for itself...

3 games a week for CheckRayz |
Well, it looks like the motor on the CheckRayz website has begun turning once again. Every Wednesday and Thursday CheckRayz will be at Poker.com for the CheckRayz Leaderboard Tour at Poker.com.
Every Monday night, CheckRayz plays the CheckRayz League at Bugsy's Club. Additionally, there may be an occasional satellite freeroll poker tournament to gain entry to the CheckRayz League.
These games will go on throughout the entire third quarter, thus giving CheckRayz members at least three quality games per week.

Is "Account sharing" legal...? |
As an online poker community, we have already dealt with the zeejustin ordeal, so that is not something I wish to mention. However, I do wish to pose the question as to whether or not sharing an online poker account is legal and/or ethical. By "sharing an online account," I mean either two people use the same account at different times (may or may not be different locations) OR a player starts a game or a tournament and another player finishes on their behalf (team play).

The Poker Writer Poker Blog - Read about all things Poker.
According to the terms and conditions at poker.com - "You agree to keep your Account information secret and confidential and to not allow anyone else to use it." --- Apparently, they are “crystal clear” on their position, as seen in the text I have taken the liberty of bolding out. However, while they are clear on what is and is not "legal", they do not necessarily discuss what the punishment specifically would be for said rules violation. However, through the terms and conditions, they reserve the right to cease funds if cheating is discovered.
Bugsy's Club, on the other hand, is clear and specific on both the definition and the enforcement of this account sharing issue. They write:
One Player per Account
"Regarding all League promotions at Bugsy’s Club pleased be informed that all play in leagues is limited to one player per username. If it is found and proved that more than one player is playing under one username, that username will forfeit any and all prize money it wins in any league promotion at Bugsy’s Club and could be banned from Bugsy’s Club. Please respect this and play by the rules."
This stands to be important with Bugsy's Club because:
1. They offer monthly prizes based on league play (i.e. - accumulate x number of league points to gain entry to a special tournament, score high on the Leaderboard for leagues to win prizes within the league).
2. Nearly EVERYTHING on Bugsy's Club falls into some sort of league. This includes the cash tables, as there's competitions based on raked hands.
Why would this matter?
One might be inclined to ask what the big deal is. Why would this matter in the least bit? I propose it matters a great deal. In the instance of Bugsy's Club and the league games, the more you play the more leaderboard points you score. Players are "supposed to" play utilizing their own account. Theoretically, who is at an advantage, the honest player playing his or her own account and playing only when they are not sleeping, working, or doing something else "life-related?" Or is it the "team" of players, who have worked out a "shift schedule" to allow them 24-hour coverage of the poker room?
How about sharing of a player account within tournaments, such as a series of tourneys or satellites of some sort? Should a player who is great at Hold’em be "right," "legal" or "ethical" by sharing playing duties with a player who is skilled in Omaha, for example, when in fact Omaha and Hold'em will be played out in the hypothetical series? Or how about the player who can play his ass off, but has problems finishing? Should one be able to tag the other in?
Surely, when instances such as this occur, people usually have some sort of justification they fabricate as to why "it is ok" in this instance. It may be "well, the person is my (wife, girlfriend, brother, dog, grandmother, room mate, life partner, hero, neighbor, insert person of choice here) thus it should be acceptable. Personally, I do not buy into the "this time it's different" method of excusing behavior. Nor do I fall into the "yea, but you have gotta understand" version of rationalization.
Personally, I prefer fair play... regardless of whether it is online, live, home game, virtual poker room, or casino.

Edit: I was tired as hell when I posted that. I had a good bit more that I was wanting to add, but I couldn't keep the eyes open.
When I went into this game, I was fairly certain I was going to play "differently" than normal; well, differently than I normally play a CheckRayz game, at least. Although, it's not uncommon for me to drop the hammer with the 2-7 not suited.
That aside, it should be noted that I was caught playing hands such as 5d-3d, 8s-7s, and Ah-4d; and often to a raise. I was even inclined to raise with such hands. And truth be told, I'd sometimes call, other times reraise with these hands. If there was one thing I learned about tournament poker play while in the land of Oz, it was that aggression takes down pots. There were antes, they were sizable (last night at Bugsy's). For that reason alone, there was added incentive to raise pre and come out firing.
When the one player (I cannot recall who it was) raised over top of me to all-in, I had no choice, mathamatically speaking, but to call. I knew I'd be calling from behind and even said "shit, not what I wanted," but I had to call anyway.
Phillyd ended up taking down the tournament. He played very well... I think back to one critical mistake I made. On a raised board, I flop 2 pr K-Q-J. I bet out almost pot sized and he calls. My bet size was mostly random. I thought to myself I'd wanted to just end the hand and not really overcommit to it. I didn't want to see a ten or an ace on this board. Turn brings an ace, and philyd moves all-in. I thought and lay down my 2 pr. In retrospect, I should have put him on an ace (any ace) and made the call, but laid it down to a ten hitting the board.
Oh well, I failed to put him away, and thus I end up second. There's always tonight!
Speaking of tonight, I think I'll write more about Oz tonight, specifically I want to write about my thoughts on the second place finisher in the Aussie Millions - Jimmy Fricke.

BeerGuy's Agenda between now and Wednesday |
It's gettin real close... Under 1 week until I am on the plane leaving Pittsburgh, stopping in LA and then straight to Melbourne for the Aussie Millions. There's seemingly so much to do and such little time to do it... I'm really not complaining though - not at all, as a matter of fact. I am very much looking forward to this opportunity of mine and plan to make the best of it.

Between now and then, I have lots to do... I expect that I'll be playing very little poker between now and Sunday, as I'll be spending quality time with the twins. We plan to watch some football and play our hearts out. This trip will mark the longest amount of time I've ever been away from them. The longest I've been apart from them prior is when they go to their mother's house (we have shared custody of the twins). So, this will be an experience - being away from them for over ten days.
On the work front, I have tourneys to enter into the server, as we have lots of freeroll poker tourneys and money-added buy-ins with some sweet overlays on the horizon while I am away... And additionally, the CheckRayz League at Bugsy's Club... All this stuff to tend to and such little time.
Additionally, I have to pack, test drive and surely update the laptop (I am borrowing one, as I am not generally a fan of laptops).
I imagine I will make another blog entry or two, but no promises...
So, until then, head over to CheckRayz to check out the tourney schedule, subscribe to receive the Poker Pub in your email... and thanks for supporting!

CheckRayz League Leaderboard Explained |

OK, the rules for the league leaderboard read as follows:
For all events points will be scored on the following basis:
Points are scored in relation to your finishing position, and prize money
won. Last place in the tournament will receive 1 point and 1 point will be
awarded for each finishing position above this. So in a 100 player
tournament the winner will receive 100 points, second would receive 99
points and so on downwards. Players will also receive points for any prize
money they get in the tournament. So if 1st place in the tournament paid
$200 then the player would receive 200 extra points as well.
In other words, $1 = 1 extra point.
So in a 100 player tournament, the winner would receive 100 points for
finishing first and 200 points corresponding to the prize money won for a
total of 300 points.
Translated to the event on the 11th, there were 20 entrants. First place ended up paying $39.50, thus the first place winner was awarded (first prize in dollars + the reciprical of finishing place) = 59.5 leaderboard points. Second place would have received 19 for the finish, plus 23.7 because that's the prize for second place from monday, for a total of 42.7 points. Third receives 18+15.80 and fourth receives 17 points, because no cash multiplier would have been awarded as that's where the cash bubble begins.
Norman, if the math is off, let me know... I believe it is dead on.
Remember, freeroll tomorrow at Poker4ever... password is on the checkrayz site - game is pot limit omaha hi/lo...

Didn't you say...? What the...? |
Yes, I said live casino report... twice, as a matter of fact... "So, where's the reports, right? I know, you must be a losing player... otherwise, you'd freely report on the games."
Actually, I did go 0 for 2 this past week. However, sad to disappoint, I did not have losing sessions. I had no sessions at all, as a matter of fact. (More after the break).

This past week - one "bad beat" after another... but wait a minute, I do not believe in bad beats, only bad plays... Fair enough - two "misplayed hands" this week cost me live play.
First, the charity game and soccer night were one in the same. That left Tuesday open for me to do whatever I choose. I naturally chose to make a casino run. For a few weeks now, I've seen this bus leave from a shopping center up the road a bit. So, on Tuesday, I set the alarm, grabbed the bankroll and pushed north to hit the bus.
I board the bus and find out that we're heading to a smaller casino than the one I normally frequent when I play live. No worries though, as they do in fact have a poker room. I get there, only to find out that the card room is empty/closed. Additionally, when I start asking around, it seems that no one working during the day can tell me anything about their card room. It seems that I sit for five hours watching everyone play bingo and that ends my poorly played hand. No worries though, Saturday I am planning to go up too!
Saturday rolls around and the actor and I pack up for a 14 hour session. Our plan was to get there by noon and stay until 4am or we had no opposition, whichever came first. I considered shutting my phone off as soon as I got in the car, as I did not wish for anything to distract or de-rail my mission.
We talk strategy on the way up, passing the time in a productive manner. Five minutes prior to arrival at the casino, I hear this ever so eerie noise. For those who don't know, when my telephone rings, I have the theme song from the movie Halloween, so when I say eerie noise, I mean it.
I look down and mention to the actor that he's calling me. Of course, his house would not be calling unless it was an emergency. Sparing details, there was an "incident" and we had to turn around and head for home. Again, no live play.
I did manage to play at "the host's" house Sunday for a special edition of the "monthly game." We played .05/.10 NL for about 5 hours. We played at a full table, I was in the hole until the last hand, which I dug myself out of. I was at about a 55-60% saw flop rate. Of course, this table did not have the ideal players to implement that strategy, but no matter... I just wanted to have fun, throw some chips around and play... And play I did. I donked around and sucked out on the last hand to recoup nearly all my losses.
Charity game is tonight on the home front. CheckRayz League at Bugsy's Club on the virtual felt. I'm still looking into the answer about how leaderboard points are awarded, so as soon as I have that info, I shall pass it along to all of you.
Have a great day...
Mike

I've received feedback wondering what exactly I meant last night in the mailbag regarding my mentioning of rakeback and strengthening of the community. Those items are each different. I will expand the best I can now without giving too much away or speaking out of turn.
1. Rakeback --- I'm planning to secure a nice rakeback deal. I've learned from past experience and watching others that this rakeback should not be for "just anyone." Said another way, this will be for serious players only and not for the player who is "considering depositing on the tenth tuesday of next year." That player is welcome to talk to me on the tenth tuesday, when he or she is ready to deposit. Enough about that... look for such a deal to land in February at the latest.
2. Strengthening the Community --- I plan to do numerous things to strengthen the CheckRayz community. This league of ours is a hit. We are keeping it. We may look to add similar (but not the same) ideas in 2007. I'd not be surprised to see differnt "series tours" within the overall CheckRayz Leaderboard.
Also, don't be surprised to see a place to share ideas, shoot the breeze, express our thoughts, and ask for help. That has been in the works since about three weeks ago --- 10% of all is sitting right here, no tears shed from me.
Bottom line, CheckRayz is going big in 2007.
Have a great weekend everyone. This time, I'm really going to play live... so I will have a live report for you on Sunday or Monday.

First up, I have no comment on what's going on "over there" - thanks for asking.
Second, yes, I believe the league at Bugsy's Club will be a continuing thing throughout next year. I'd look for a monthly or quarterly league there, in addition to the leaderboard tour at CheckRayz.
Third, look for the leaderboard rules to be adjusted in 2007.
Fourth, also coming in 2007 --- look for a rakeback offer, and an additional means by which to strengthen our community.
And finally, yes... I am fine. I just have a really full plate right now. Too many irons in the fire. I'll be back playing with you all soon!
Take care and thanks for reading.

I don't really have any one thought in mind this morning for what I want to talk about. Also, I'm not sure I feel up to making 50 million posts... so I guess I'll just ramble on and on topic hopping... This can get me back into the habbit of using the bold subtitles too...
That being said, match day 2 of the CheckRayz League at Bugsy's Club is tonight. Match Day 1 featured 26 CheckRayz'n poker players. Will there be more tonight? Be there at Bugsy's Club 9pm... The password for Bugsy's Club is on the tourney schedule page of the CheckRayz site.
Moving on...
Thoughts on Freerolling
I am considering either cutting back on freerolls again, or putting some sort of temporary "restrictions" on them at select poker rooms. For the second event in a row at Poker4ever, three or more of the top ten players are not members of CheckRayz --- or at least not tracable members.
Poker4ever is one of those poker rooms where passwords seem to be passed out more freely than... well, passed out freely. I need to come up with a method to prevent this from happening going forward. Ideally, we need more members to grow. To do so, we must spread the word, but at the same time it is not ok to freely distribute the passwords to the tournaments.
The reason I require log-in on the CheckRayz site to access the passwords is to keep the tournaments closed to our CheckRayz Poker Community. Giving passwords out takes away from the sense of community. So, stay tuned for further measures to maintain our community.
Continuing...

The Blogger Poker Tour Event six is this weekend. So far, we have 97 blogging poker players registered. I suspect Skinski's record from event five shall be surpassed.

While on the topic of the Blogger Poker Tour... Your's truly will be the host for the final event of season two... We'll be holding Last Call for the BPT right here at the poker pub for some drunken, no standard Pot Limit Omaha 8 or better.
Look for me to track down some strategy tips, rules, commentary, and ideas on PLO8 in the days to come.

We're getting the ball rolling at CheckRayz. This week, we're holding five tournaments in 5 days. Of the five poker tournaments we're holding, three of them are free to enter, paying out a cash prize (yes, free cash)! Bugsy's Club and Poker4ever will be the home to these freeroll and money-added poker tournaments.
Monday (today) and Tuesday, CheckRayz will be holding freeroll poker tournaments at Bugsy's Club.
Wednesday, we're back at Bugsy's Club, and starting our 11 tournament league within the league. Yes, you read correctly... We have our main CheckRayz Leaderboard Poker Tour. We are now also holding a league, or a tour at Bugsy's Club. 11 tournaments, all of which count towards both the CheckRayz league at Bugsy's Club AND towards the CheckRayz Leaderboard Tour.
The top three in the CheckRayz League, after the 11 tourneys will win $150, $100, and $50 respectively, courtesy of Bugsy. Don't miss out.
Thursday, CheckRayz takes the Leaderboard Poker Tour back to Poker4ever for a free poker tournament. Once again, no cost to enter, and cash prizes to the winners.
Then, Friday, we head right back to Bugsy's Club for the second leg of the CheckRayz League.
While I am busy pimping free things, event six of the Blogger Poker Tour is this weekend. As always, the Poker Pub Poker Blog will be providing free, entertaining coverage of the tournament. Be sure to stay tuned.

I'm looking around the net and I see lots of value this weekend. The "b n m" stores aren't the only place to find a great deal. I personally do most all of my shopping on the net... But really, I'm not referring to shopping for the holiday season.
In fact, I'm talking poker tournaments - which is no surprise, considering after all this is the Poker Pub Poker Blog, right?
Anyway, first stop, Bugsy's Club. Today, Bugsy is holding the $10,000 Guaranteed. Buy-in for the $10K is $20 + $2. Furthermore, it should be noted, there is a $500 Bounty on Bugsy, and up to one million Bugsy's Bonus Points to be given away! Add to that the first time deposit bonus of 100% up to $600 and we've got quite a deal goin on over there. Download Bugsy's Club here.
Moving along, Poker.com has their monthly $50K freeroll this Sunday! This is, by far, the best kept secret on the net. Earn 5000 comp points prior to tourney start time to be eligable. This tourney holds once a month, so we know at minimum, poker.com gets 5000 comp points worth of my business monthly. Although, by only giving them 5K of poker business, I'd be shorting myself, as they have daily $1K freerolls, along with weekly $2000, and $10K freebies, daily freerolls for all players, dailys for new players... I'd be a fool for not playing here regularly! Download poker.com here to begin freerolling. I should further note, there's a 100% new player bonus going on right now at poker.com. Be sure to take advantage of it!
Continuing on to Poker4ever - No Limit Hold'em Tournament Saturday, November 25
5pm EST Buy in $10 + $1. Tourney is Guaranteeing $3K in the prize pool. Download Poker4ever here. Deposit $20 here and get $40 via play-through.
Finally, to help pay the bills... be sure to stop by and check out these great sets of poker chips, and nice poker tables from 5StarDeal, who has everything from casino supplies to home entertainment centers, toys, games, collectables, luggage and more...
Have a great weekend everyone...

We have just over 1 month left on the CheckRayz Leaderboard Poker Tour of 2006. The first two legs of the tour crowned Clayshooter and Reelcrazy as champions, respectively. There is still plenty of play scheduled for the final leg, and even more to be scheduled.
Next week, there are two freerolls (Monday and Tuesday). Additionally, we begin our CheckRayz League at Bugsy's Club, which is a league within a league. The top three of that league receives $150, 100, and 50 respectively. These league matches also count towards CheckRayz Leaderboard points.
There will be more on the CheckRayz Leaderboard in the weeks ahead. My guess though is that one would want to appear on the top quarter of that board to be eligable for anything we may be holding, so hang in there, score some points and thanks for supporting!

We've got tourney! After some hard work and a few distractions, we now have everything in order at Bugsy's Club for CheckRayz Poker Tourneys. I'll be adding more tourneys between now and the end of the year, however, let's focus for the moment on Bugsy's Club happenings with CheckRayz.
Bugsy's Club has agreed to provide us a Poker League. This league will be a poker tour inside a poker tour for us. Look at the Leaderboard at CheckRayz as an overall "player of the year" manner (though this is the final half of 2006, actually). And look at the Bugsy's Club CheckRayz League as a smaller tour that counts for both itself and player of the year honors.
Here's how it works:
There will be 11 events (I may have wrote 12 somewhere). Anyway, 11 tournaments, which will take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings at 9.05pm EST from Wednesday Nov 29th through Friday December 22nd. These tournaments will be $1+.10, donkfest rules (Rebuy-addon hour number one) apply. CheckRayz leaderboard points will be assigned as per normal routine. Additionally, Bugsy's Club will have a leaderboard for our league.
Each tourney will pay out as per the normal payout schedule. At the end of the league, the top ranked league player, per the CheckRayz League Leaderboard at Bugsy's Club will be paid out top prize of $150. Second place receives $100, and third place $50.
This is a new concept to CheckRayz and should prove to be both exciting and challenging.
I look forward to seeing everyone there!
Mike

To follow up my post from the other day, here's the preliminary plan for CheckRayz, and what we're going to do between now and the end of the year. It should be noted, I do intend to add more poker rooms and tourneys to the mix. This is, however the biggest portion of our tour.
Keep in mind, these plans are "unconfirmed." Once they're confirmed, I'll have them loaded into the CheckRayz tourney schedule.
All events listed to be played at Bugsy's Club and are at 9pm EST, unless noted otherwise:
Wednesday Nov 15 Freeroll poker tourney
Friday Nov 17 - Freeroll poker tourney
Monday Nov 20 - Freeroll poker tourney
Tues Nov 21 - Freeroll poker tourney
League play - this will be a tour within a tour. All games will count for official CheckRayz Leaderboard points. Additionally, these games will count for our Bugsy's Club League points, where top finishers will get cash prizes (details to come when confirmed).
League games will be played every Monday, Weds, Friday beginning Wednesday Nov 29th and running through Friday December 22nd. The games will most likely be low level buy-ins (quite likely $1+.10 with Rebuy/add-on). Additionally, the top players of the evening take down the prize pool, and the money added goes to the tour winner.
As stated, these games will play a role in the Leaderboard Chase at CheckRayz. After the first of the year, we'll figure out where the Leaderboard Shootout will be played and other logisitcal issues.
That is all I have for now...
