After 9 years in business, Planet Poker is ceasing real money operations. Management regrets this decision but the impact of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the U.S. leaves no reasonable alternative.
During the past several months, Planet Poker explored every reasonable option to continue real money operations. This included working with other cardrooms and ecommerce processors to find solutions to the issues existing in the industry today. Unfortunately, no viable solution was found.
As always, all funds on deposit are safe and secure at Planet Poker.
Real money tables and tournaments will continue at Planet Poker through to 31 March 2007, but effective immediately, players will no longer be able to make a deposit. As an affiliate, players whom you have signed up will continue to earn commission until closure of the real money tables and tournaments on March 31st. The final affiliate payments for March earnings will be posted in the first week of April after which, you will have the same options as the players to either cashout through the normal CASHIER channels, or transfer funds to a participating cardroom.
Players are being advised via email and public announcements in the Cardroom.

WSOP Europe and American Dress Codes |
Harrahs is launching WSOP Europe. The festivities are expected to play out from Sept 6-16 and shall take place at three casinos operated by London Clubs International – Fifty, Leicester Square and the Sportsman.
Additionally, Harrahs has relaxed their dress code in the US for the WSOP. They now are allowing multiple logos, not to exceed 12 square-inches.

I strongly suspect the WSOP Europe event surely signals a willingness of Harrahs to diversify their WSOP business outside of the USA.
Back to the logo-ware, this move is apparantly being done to better afford players the opportunity to maixmize their sponsorships.
While multiple logos are allowed, they must fall under the following guidelines (Logos may not):
(a) Contain any false, unsubstantiated, or unwarranted claims for any product or
service, or make any testimonials that Harrah’s, in its sole and absolute discretion,
considers unethical;
(b) Advertise any habit-forming drug, tobacco product, handgun or handgun
ammunition;
(c) Advertise any malt beverage or any distilled liquor or any non-alcoholic product
containing the name of a liquor product other than Milwaukee’s Best Light or
another product of the Miller Brewing Company.
(d) Contain any material constituting or relating to a lottery, a contest of any kind in
which the public is unfairly treated or any enterprise, service or product that
abets, assists or promotes illegal gambling
(e) Contain any material that is defamatory, obscene, profane, vulgar, repulsive or
offensive, either in theme or in treatment or that describes or depicts repellently
any internal bodily functions or symptomatic results of internal conditions, or
refers to matters that are not considered socially acceptable topics;
(f) Advertise pornographic products of any kind;
(g) Include any element of intellectual property without the owner's consent to such
use or gives rise to any claim of infringement, misappropriation or other form of
unfair competition;
(h) Disparage or libel any person or product.
(i) Advertise a dot.com gaming site that conducts business with U.S. residents.
(j) Are or might be injurious or prejudicial to the interests of the World Series of
Poker, the Rio, Harrah's or its affiliated companies or are otherwise contrary to
honest advertising and reputable business in general. This includes but is not
limited to the name or logo of any person or entity that uses or has used the
trademarks, trade names or logos of Harrah's or its affiliated companies without
written authorization from an authorized officer of Harrah's.
(k) In addition, all logos, patches, and promotional language for any dot.net website
must contain a clear and visible "dot.net" suffix at least the same size as the site
name.
(l) Harrah’s reserves the right at all times to impose a ban on any apparel deemed
objectionable by Harrah’s, in its sole and absolute discretion.

More 2007 CheckRayz Poker Talk |
1 holiday down, another to go... and then Aussie here I come! Now that the excitement has settled in a bit, and the rush of Christmas is behind me, I want to talk a bit about the CheckRayz Poker Tour in the year 2007.
For starters, I have indicated that we're continuing the overall CheckRayz Leaderboard Poker Tour. There will be some key additions to the Tour, which we'll discuss below.

First of all, perhaps the most noticable of all the changes, is that there will be two distinctly seperate CheckRayz Leaderboard Poker Tours. We'll have the main CheckRayz Poker Tour --- which all players will be eligable to participate in.
We will additionally have a CheckRayz International Poker Tour. This tour will be for our non-US players. The International Tour games will take place at the poker rooms that no longer accept US Players, but CheckRayz has maintained a relationship with. Rooms such as Kiwi Poker and Noble Poker will be the home of these poker tournaments. Additionally, these games will take place during times better suited to our international marketplace.
Our first CheckRayz International games will take place January 8th at 3pm EST at Kiwi Poker and will be a $5+.50, $100 added buy-in. We'll follow that up on January 9th at 3pm for a $50 freeroll for those who participated in the buy-in. The International Group will have their own leaderboard, eventually - and will help contribute to the overall growth of the CheckRayz Network.
As for the main CheckRayz tour... all will be welcome to participate. We will be using rooms that all players have access to. Our Bugsy's Club League will continue under the main tour and be a league within a league.

Un-fing-believable... |
I am still sitting here, roughly 12 hours removed from that horrible beating... totally in disbelief. 1 word... un-fing-believable! Look, forget in the last post I said one of six cards would help me. I know it was five cards... That's not the point.
The point is, well... the point is... Look, I should not EVER lose with the hammer when I drop it, period. And now that I have... well, I guess now I have to question everything I once believed to be real. Thanks Mitch! Thanks for the wake up call...
No advertisments today, in mourning of the BeerGuy's hammer drop gone wrong...
The two-fing-seven offsuit is supposed to be the strongest hand in poker. And in the interest of fairness, I've never went to a showdown with the hammer and lost with it. I can really only conclude that live poker is rigged. I mean how else do you explain such a beating? Mitch had to have had access to the algorhythm or something in the human shuffler. Or maybe the dealer was giving him signals. Mitch was the host, after all. Or maybe it was a pocket cam that he had access to?
Even so, I'd think that between my playing the strongest hand in poker AND I've not even mentioned Chuck F'ing Norris was protecting my chips. Sure, Mitch had a ninja... big deal. Everyone knows Norris trumps Ninja, period...
So, what next? Where do I go from here? I mean, next thing you're gonna tell me is that some things do actually occur 90% of the time... or or or... that the US is going to be the only country still not on the metric system, right?
I know, you're gonna say that people are going to sell their poker blogs and turn them into... nah, that's just ridiculous. No one sells their poker blogs.
All I know is that I've not lost with the hammer since the modern sack era of football ever! And now that I have... well, I guess I have to re-learn the game of hold'em, because what I once believed to be true now no longer is. So, I guess I'm a newbie here... I'm going to have to teach myself to play all over again. Start from scratch, if you will...
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to train between now and "the big game" (Blogger Poker Tour Grand Final - Saturday 3pm --- pregame begins at 5pm Moscow Time - happy hour). And, unlike Mitch, I'm a true athlete and won't juice up to enhance my performance on the felt. So, I guess the Grand Final is the place! I'm gonna learn to play all over again, and what a great training ground that will be. 19 quality players and the new guy. I wonder if I'll have beginner's luck?

I'm sad to announce that the original plan of having Last Call be a pot limit omaha hi/lo game has been cancelled. Poker.com made a tough decision and had to roll back the release date of the latest upgrade. Thus, a plo8 game is no longer possible. I know this disappoints some. I find it unfortunate, despite not being an omaha player nor a plo8 player. We will manage though.
In it's place, the Commish and I have decided that we'd go with a deep stacks NL Hold'em tournament. That's right, if this is last call, we're doing it right. 5K in starting chips, normal blinds. The over-under is still 5% of the field going out in round one of the blinds, so do not let the deep stacks fool ya. Deep stacks benefits the technician, so be ready for some great play.
This then brings me to the launch bonus... The change of tourney greatly impacts how the launch bonus affects a player. Originally, the bonus was going to be split amongst everyone who won a piece of the pot. In hi/lo, that would normally be two or more players, unless someone scoops. Now, with moving back to hold'em, it's probably going to be one player winning the launch bonus... unless of course, I run the table from start to finish. By the numbers, I am expecting close to 200 players competing in this final event. If I am close to accurate, then it stands to reason that launching me alone can bring a new player near the top 20. Parlay a strong finish, maybe even a final table, and they're all but guaranteed a top 20 finish to the tour and thus a spot in the grand final.
So recap, launch me - imjusthere4thebeer - score my host points... But wait, before proceeding on, I do in fact have a couple stipulations. I've learned my lesson and do not give away a free lunch... No sir/ma'am. Here's the deal. Launching me makes you eligable for my host points. Upon my launch, I will go to your blog. I need to see two things.
1. You've made a post of some sort (and substance) regarding the Blogger Poker Tour within the past seven days of the event. This means, you've posted at least once about the tour between 12.01am on Friday 8 December to 11.59pm on Friday 15 December.
2. The Blogger Poker Tour banner is both in proper working order (I can click it and get to the BPT page), and displayed so that my oversized monitor and I do not need to scroll down in order to find it. When we send traffic your way, I want them to know you're part of the tour!
Finally, I'll go back to your blog at the end of the day on Saturday (11.59pm EST). By then, you've had to have made a second post on the BPT event. It is at this time that I shall give Shane the OK to issue you my host points. And by this time, you've earned them.

So, I am guessing by now that you've all heard the news. And by news, a bounty has been placed upon my head for the Poker Pub Last Call Omaha Hi/Lo event for the Blogger Poker Tour, which will be held on December 16 at 3pm EST on the virtual felt of Poker.com.
That's right folks, I'm putting it all on the line. The final event of Blogger Poker Tour Season 2, expected to be by far, the richest event to date in terms of leaderboard points, and host bonus... And I'm giving my host bonus away. Keep reading to find out how...
For starters, obviously... in order to collect this launch bonus, you have to first be one of the hi/low'ers to oust me from the tournament. Be careful though, as omaha hi/lo is a game of draws and things do not always end up how they start.
Launching me, though, is the hardest task, but it's not the only task. I've asked for two very specific stipulations to be put in place in order for the launch bonus to be collected. They are as follows:
1. BPT Banner is working and prominently displayed on the ousting blogger's blog. - what I mean by this... is give the banner some exposure... how about when I come to your page, I don't have to scroll down to see it. Or at the very least, if I have to scroll, I can still be reading your most recent blog post and "come across" it. And as for "working"... I mean, if I click it, it will take me to the BPT page.
2. Blogger must have posted "about the blogger poker tour" within the past seven days and again the day of the tournament. - What do I mean by this? I mean, post on your blog... talk about, promote the tour. Give us some omaha strategy. Talk about your experiences, make predictions, talk smack! Blog about the Blogger Poker Tour! Do this the week going into the event AND the day of.
If you've not done so, then I guess you'll not get part of the launch prize.
Additional suggestion... speaking of promotion and exposure... Invite your friends! Not only does that help the tour grow, but it also increases launch bonus because it's a bigger field. Additionally, it helps make your finish in the event more meaningful, because there's more points for you for finishing or final tabling...
And most importantly, it helps to bring more quality people such as yourself to the event. So, spread the word, embrace the tour and launch the Beer Guy at Last Call!

For starters my thoughts: The Blogger Poker Tour event six was great. I think the biggest story of the tournament is that JayNYC made yet another top twenty five finish. For the record, he did not start until event three, placed 24th in that event. Followed it up with an 18th place finish, then a third... and now this week 7th. If he's not the hottest player on the tour right now, and odds on favorite to be playing in Aussie, I'm not really sure who is.
Second, it's disappointing that one or two people attempt to hijack the tour and whine about things, as stated in my post yesterday on the Blogger POKER Tour. Especially from someone who puts themselves out there not just as a blogger, but also as a journalist... to link a forum thread to the thought that "other bloggers are not happy either" (about event seven being pot limit omaha hi/low), when in reality, there was one negative comment on that thread --- (but even that comment wasn't all that negative). Furthermore, that thread was in support of event six and just got a bit off track! I stumbled across a statement released by Excapsa, the software company behind Ultimate Bet. They are in fact a publicly traded company (AIM: XCP). In their press release, they "note" that congress passed the SAFE Port Act, with bullshit attachment.
Additionally, they assume us (the investor) that they're "firmly positioned to continue to grow and develop in line..." They boast of 47 million USD in cash available to throw at their strategy. What is bothersome though, is that they're attracting onely 1/3 of their new customers from outside of the United States. The actual press release from Excapsa can be viewed here. No wonder why they were twitching when Pokershare came in and wound things up back when...
Courtesy of the Poker.com Poker Blog, it appears that Mike Sexton is hitting the road to do the Media Blitz. Mike, a high profile voice of poker, has intentions of doing the talk show circuit . "It's time for standing up and speaking out on behalf of our freedom of choice, which has been violated, comments Sexton on his upcoming campaign.
Stopping by the Poker Player's Alliance, they have this neat little tool that allows one to receive a weekly report of emails from their local congressman *speaking of tools*. I highly advise everyone to sign up for this free service. Never again do we want to "allow" our government to operate without immediate accountability. Register for the weekly report from your congressman here.

It's a sad day indeed. I'm not going to pretend this is not happening, because folks, it is... The government of the United States is in fact moving to ban their citizens from gambling online. Bill Frist, the US Senate Majority Leader, attached a version of the Internet Gambling Prohibition Act to an unrelated bill on Port Security, thus winning the official Beer Football Club's, "you've gotta be f'ing kidding me" award of the month. So, OBVIOUSLY if you're against prohibiting gambling, you're also against safe ports in our country... Oh yea, I see the correlation.
No matter how it falls, I believe my constitutional rights are being disregarded. I'll go more into it later in the week as this unfolds. Besides, much has already been said about the bill. My suggestion to the masses is to vote each and every congressman and senator who's up for re-relection right on out of office.
So, what now, right? Well, until determined otherwise, CheckRayz has a tour they're conducting. For this month, I have tournaments confirmed at 32 Red, Poker4ever, and Celeb Poker. Still waiting to hear back from Kiwi Poker and Noble Poker... One other NEW poker room is gonna host a bash or two for us as well. Also, we're going to do a little somethin-somethin at River Belle Poker, so stay tuned.
I am not telling anyone what to do, or how to do things, but I am rather certain that any of the poker rooms I have and am currently dealing with are up front, mostly honest places of business. I do not see them getting shady on us. First sign of it, I'll surely report, but overall, I still feel safe conducting business as usual. Thus, I won't be cashing out like it's goin out of style. If I do, I'll report here.

Just when I thought I was ready to begin singing the ipoker network praise... It was discovered by my CheckRayz membership that ipoker has a new policy in place, seemingly in place since Sept 21st. This policy affects all ipoker rooms, Titan Poker, Kiwi Poker, USA Poker, and Noble Poker, among others. This policy allows for players (going forward) to have only 1 real money poker account per player. This means that anyone who downloaded any of the ipoker clients and registered a real money account through any of us at the SPN will not be permitted to open new accounts in the future at other poker rooms.
On a personal note, I think this policy sucks! For one, it restricts one's freedom of choice. What if, for example, someone downloads kiwi poker, has a bad experience with their top notch customer support desk, and wants to go to another ipoker client, such as Noble poker? They're stuck if they wish to play on this network. Additionally, the ability to bonus whore, compete in leaderboard events (such as mine) or move to newer poker rooms with a certain nitch market within the ipoker network are no longer an option. They might as well make 1 huge Ipoker room, and forget about the various brands at this point. Everyone wear uniforms, as you're all the same now... Garbage.
I have contacted ipoker and am awaiting a response. I suspect I will hear something about "blah blah blah, best interest of the customer, blah blah blah, protecting the brand, blah blah blah (insert blowing smoke up a$$ statement of choice here).
I can understand a policy similar to that of microgaming (sorry Norm), where they require everyone to have 1 screenname, yet allow the poker players access to all microgaming rooms. I'm known as the same player at 32 red as I am at River Belle Poker... but I am allowed access to both rooms. I cannot understand the logic behind restricting my freedom of choice...

I agree Mitch. A poker room joins the network so they can have other players that help to seemingly fill their tables and play in their tourneys (giving me "action" so to speak without too many growing pains).
Said poker room is independant of one another within the network, only coming in contact with one another's players. Theoretically, I am and should be free to choose which poker room/rooms I wish to access the network through.
The networking concept is similar to a co-operative, where a group of companys form a group to increase their buying power and the co-operative negotiates favorable rates for all their members within a network of vendors. Each member of the co-op may purchase as he/she sees fit (within the rules) from any approved vendor. Each vendor in turn, may market to each member of the co-op as they see fit (within the rules).
Now, if the group of companys formed one huge company, as opposed to a co-op, then we're really only dealing with one massive corporation, not a group of companies. So, which is ipoker, a co-op network of sorts or is it a big company?

I respond:
From my experiences, Titan's support is not really strong, though they did come through for me the one time I needed them (took them six tries, but they came through no less). They probably benefit the most from this because they have been the monsters in marketing of the ipoker rooms.
I suggest people begin writing the poker rooms they have an account with in protest of this. In fact, I'll work on organizing a list of contacts and their email addresses.

Commentary: Like him or not, Jamie Gold has a presence about him at this final table. I do not find him to be the best player at the table. He seems to lack focus at times. He has made players (i.e. - Lee) make huge, costly mistakes. Allen Cunningham is by far the better player at this table, which is not really a surprise. He's taken his shots at Gold, picking and choosing his spots. I'm liking the way Cunningham has been playing. He and Wasicka are still alive, despite Gold seemingly running away with the chips. Binger and Butler do have the short stacks, but I'm not feeling the whole chip n chair story from them. I do foresee a Gold meltdown on the horizon.

Binger and Butler are roughly tied for last in chip count now with Binger doubling through.
2am EDT - Gold raises and takes the pot.
Cunningham steals from the cutoff.
Scotty Ngygen joins the commentary.
Gold steals from the button, raises from the cutoff next hand. Cunningham calls from the BB. Cunningham bets out on the turn, call from Gold. Possible straight on the board at the river, check/check. Allen flopped a straight flush draw, takes down the pot.
Gold limp raises after Binger raising initially. Binger lays down the hand, respecting the limp raise move. Gold had done this twice earlier both times with pocket Queens.

As an aside, it's really nice to be watching each and every hand played, as opposed to the soundbite highlights on ESPN, even if we don't get the pocket cams.
Gold vs. Cunningham. Cunningham bets on the turn. Gold raises. Little commentary back n forth between the two. Scratch that, lot's of talk. Gold can't seem to keep his trap shut. I suspect this is going to give Allen enough info to make the correct read. Fold.
